The Grey Ghosts are headed to the playoffs after a 41-13 win over Prairie Central (3-6) at Lewis Field. The IVC record went up to 6-3 to clinch a berth. The playoff pairings were announced Saturday and IVC will be traveling to face Rock Island Alleman (7-2). The Grey Ghosts took it to the PC defense with 421 yards rushing. The defense came out strong as well with only allowing 13 points and stopping a 2-point conversion attempt after PC's second touchdown in the third. “Our offensive linemen did a great job,” said coach Tim Heinz. “We kept the ball on the ground and scored 41 points which is always good.” IVC's first touch down came half way through the first quarter on a nine-play drive. Kelley Noetzol drove the ball in on third-and-goal at 6:28. Noetzol ran 31 yards for another touchdown three minutes later after a four-play drive. PC was able to get seven points on the board after a six-play drive that ended with a pass to Chase Collins who ran it in at 36 seconds left in the first. At 8:27 in the second Noetzol ran in his third touchdown. IVC's defense stopped PC at every chance in the second, only allowing PC to make its longest eight-play drive which resulted in a forced punt. “Our defense played very, very well against their option all night,” Heinz said. The second half started with IVC possession but were forced to punt after a flag on the play took the ball back to four-and-18. PC took over and punted as well after a host of Ghosts took down Brandon Riedel in the backfield after a pitch from quarterback Jordan Spangler. Blake Strebel had an 8-yard run and then an 80-yard rush for the touchdown at 4:01. Ben Rashid's kick was good to bring it to 34-7. PC answered back with a pass to Sam Schuler on four-and-goal to end the third quarter. The beginning of the fourth brought Noetzol's and IVC's last touchdown on a 14-yard run. Throughout the remainder of the game, IVC and PC went back and forth on downs until the final buzzer. Stebel ended with 265 rushing yards and Noetzol had 141. IVC will travel to face Rock Island Alleman (4-1, 7-2) for the first round playoff game Saturday.
