Robert F. Smith, 84, of Chillicothe died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Jan. 7, 1928, in Peoria to Van and Alice (Kitzmiller) Smith, he married Pat Coon Aug. 15, 1951. She survives.
Also surviving are three sisters, Lorraine Giugler and Carmen (Don) Biddison, both of Chillicothe, and Rosemarie Taylor of California; and one brother Russell (Eleanor) Smith of Chillicothe.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Smith, and one sister, Delores Petty.

He moved to Chillicothe in 1929 with his parents and attended Chillicothe grade and high schools, graduating in 1946. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a dispatcher until he entered the Army during the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated the Standard Station on the south end of Chillicothe with his brother, Dick. He later co-owned the Skelly Station and fuel oil business with his father and brother, Dick. He sold his interest in the fuel business and went into the insurance, real estate and appraisal business. He retired in 1994.

He bowled on leagues through the years. He got his pilot license and owned several planes.

He volunteered for the Chillicothe Community Fire Department, Methodist Hospital and Chillicothe Township.

Cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services.

Memorials may be made to the Chillicothe Community Fire Department in his name.
