The Illinois Valley Central wrestling season has come to an end.
Sophomore Jordan Ladd wrestled for the Ghosts in the State tournament.
"Jordan had a great season," coach Matt Russell said. "We wanted to have a little more success at State but that's how it goes sometimes.
"Getting to this point as a sophomore will help him next year."
In his only bout of the tournament Thursday, Ladd fell on a pin in 1:14 to Gavin Kitson of Decatur.
"Walking out of the tunnel in Champaign can be an intimidating thing when you do it the first time," Russell said. "He knows what it is like to be there and what it feels like to come up a little short after getting there."
Ladd's journey to State began with a first-place finish in the 195-lbs. division at the Pontiac regional Feb. 2.
In the Rochelle Sectional Feb. 9, Ladd finished second after earning a berth in the championship match, in which he fell on a tough 1:59 pin.
Sophomore Riley Beard and senior Calvin Campbell traveled to State as alternates for their weight.
"Jordan needs to hit the weights and do a little off- season wrestling to get ready for next season," Russell said. "Knowing what kind of athlete he is, I am sure he will do what it takes to bring home a medal next season."
