Illinois Valley Central is sending one wrestler to State.

Sophomore Jordan Ladd punched his ticket to the State meet when he finished second in the 195-lbs. division at the Rochelle Sectional.

Ladd made it to the championship match but fell in a 1:59 pin to take second place.

Sophomore Riley Beard finished one place out of a state qualification when he took fifth in the 126-lbs. division.

"The future of Jordan and Riley is going to be really fun to see unfold," Russell said. "One thing I know for sure is that the two of them will work very hard over the next two years. It will be fun to see how good they will get."

Senior Calvin Campbell also came one place short of heading to State when he took fifth in the 285 lbs. division.

"Calvin has been a true pleasure to coach over the past four years," Russell said. "He is one of the hardest working kids I have coached over the past 14 years, regardless of sport.
"He will definitely be very difficult to replace."

Russell said Ladd's best chance at State is to keep on the same pace he has been on all year.

"Jordan will just have to wrestle like he has all year to have success at State," Russell said. "He has had a much better year than any of us expected.

"He will have a good shot at getting a medal this weekend."

Ladd will wrestle at Assembly Hall in Champaign for State with times to be announced.

Beard and Campbell will travel as alternates for their weight division.

"All three had great years," Russell said. "Calvin had 36 wins, Riley had 42 and Jordan has 41.

If my records are correct, 41 was the most in school history for a single season coming into the year."
