Leslie Kenneth Troyan, 89, of McNabb, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Heartland Health Care Center, Peoria.

Services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Dysart — Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville. Pastor Carol Stufflebeam will officiate. Cremation rites will follow.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 at Dysart – Cofoid Funeral Chapel.

Leslie was born on March 9, 1923, in Iron Mountain, Mich., to Andrew and Viola Wilmenia (Clark) Troyan. He married Joyce Elaine Wilson on June 28, 1947, in Dousman, Wis.

They celebrated their 65th anniversary on June 28, 2012.

He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1942 and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, majoring in physical education. He received the gymnastics awards in college.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army and was a sergeant with 1st Calvary Division, 1st Signal Troop in the Pacific from 1942 to 1945.

Les worked for Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver, Colo., from 1950 to 1951. He returned to Illinois and became a lifetime farmer in Putnam County.

He was a board director for McNabb Telephone Company for 54 years, with 6 years as president.

Past commander of American Legion Post 1242, and served on the Honor Guard: Putnam County selective service board for 10 years, the Clown Association of LaSalle, Old Timer Softball, Magnolia Swaney PTA president; member of Magnolia Grange, a member of Private Pilot Association. He flew guide dogs from Texas to Illinois.

Survivors are his wife, Joyce of McNabb; one son, Kenneth R. (Linda) Troyan of Peoria; one daughter, Kathleen M. (Grant) Burger of Chillicothe; four grandchildren, Jennifer Jackson of Chicago, Melissa (Mark) Walsh of Ottawa, Michelle (Don) Wiley of Chillicothe, Kevin (Karen) Hepner of Woodbine, Ga; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
