The regular season is done for Illinois Valley Central's grapplers and the second season is ready to begin.
The team's second to last match of the regular season was a 44-24 victory over Midland Jan. 21 on the road.
"We did what we expected against Midland," Russell said. "We were still without a lot of guys but were able to pull out the win."
Bret Hoover started the Ghost wins in the 120-lbs. division with a 6-4 win in overtime.
Kyle Cox dominated his foe in the 132-lbs. division and won on a 4:45 pin.
In the 138-lbs. division, Riley Beard crushed his opponent on a 16-1 tech fall.
Jared Placher, in the 170-lbs. division, sped through his match and came out with a pin in 0:40.
In the 220-lbs. division, Jordan Ladd closed the Ghost winners with a 4:57 pin.
Nick Norris, Nic Ransom and Calvin Campbell won by forfeit.
The team finished the regular season Jan. 23 at Rock Falls and fell.
"Rock Falls was a good team," Russell said. "We won at 106 with Nick Norris, 132 with Beard and 285 with Campbell.
"We only put out seven varsity wrestlers but hopefully we will have everyone back for Regionals this week."
The team next wrestles at 9 a.m. Saturday at Pontiac in the Regional, with the finals starting at 2 p.m.
"Our Regional is very tough," Russell said. "Our goal is for the kids to go into Pontiac and wrestle above their seed."
In the Regional, the boys will be paired against tough teams from Metamora, Morris, Ottawa, Pontiac, Sandwich, Streator, Yorkville and LaSalle-Peru.
The wrestlers will need to both play smart and fast to keep their talented opponents from jumping out to big point leads early in the matches.
