  • No choice for trustees on school, park, library boards

    • email print
  • Voters will have no choice in their picks for school, park and library boards locally, short of any write-in candidates.
Candidates had to file their petitions by Dec. 26, which was changed from the earlier date of Dec. 24 after the General Assembly had to pass a bill to change the filing date for clerks and secretaries.
For the IVC District 321 School Board, incumbents Gay Nell German, Sarah Williamson and Donna Uebler are running for their respective seats.
Steve Nalley chose not to run, and Michael Birch filled the last spot for the ballot. They are four-year seats.
The park and library boards, however, will need to appoint residents to fill their seats as candidates did not fill their slates.
Incumbents Wes Williamson and Sandy Tippett filed to run, but Dick Howarth did not. No one else filed for the third four-year trustee position.
The library board, however, is a different story.
More than half of its seats on the board need to be filled.
Incumbent Jane Harrison is running for the two-year term.
Four positions were up for election with four-year terms.
Filling those seats currently are Kathy Close and Mary Jo Evans. Jeannie Bauer also was appointed to a seat when Ralph O'Sullivan resigned during his term; and Shawna Masters was appointed after Brynn Sowers had to resign due to moving out of state.
Due to the vacancies and the other half of the board's expiring terms in two years — President Martha Canopy, Secretary Wed Turner and Harrison again — the entire library board will be up for election in 2015.
The April 9 election also includes city positions, including the mayor's race, and area township slates for Democrats and Republicans.
