Gilbert T. “Gil” Lopez, 80, of Silvis, Ill., formerly of Chillicothe, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at his home.
Born Aug. 22, 1932, in Chillicothe to Panfilo and Josephina Rodriguez Lopez, he married Mary Sandoval July 14, 1956, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Lada (Jose) Rangel of Colona; three sons, Larry Lopez of Moline, Mario Lopez of Coal Valley and Gilbert Frank Lopez of Silvis; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lenora Bustamante of Chicago, Louise Acosta of Chicago, and Delores (Fernando) Delgadillo of Bartonville; one brother, Jesse (Margaret) Lopez of Rock Island; and one sister-in-law, Nadine Wakefield of Rock Island.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Sophie Delgado, Rosie Lopez and Pauline Ruiz; and brothers, Paul and Peter Lopez.
He retired from John Deere Harvester in East Moline in 1987 after nearly 30 years of service.
Funeral services were Jan. 2 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Mausoleum in East Moline. Visitation was Jan. 1 at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary was recited.
