TimesNewspapers is seeking interns for the winter and spring terms. TimesNewspapers consists of five weekly newspapers: Morton Times-News, East Peoria Times-Courier, Woodford Times, Chillicothe Times-Bulletin and Washington Times-Reporter. “Internships are a great way to get hands-on experience prior to seeking a job,” Executive Editor Jeanette Kendall said. “Our past interns have built impressive resume portfolios after their time with us. Many of our past interns have said they would recommend the internship to others.” During the internship, which generally lasts for about three months, interns work closely with editors and learn valuable skills, such as working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, news reporting, interview skills, photography and video skills, AP style and more. Internships are open to area college students who are majoring in journalism. Those applying must have some journalism experience, along with good writing and communication skills. They must also have a general knowledge of AP style and the ability to distinguish between hard news and features. Interns must also have reliable transportation. Interns are able to set their own hours, but must adhere to deadlines. Some night and weekend assignments are part of the internship. Internships are not paid, but mileage is reimbursed. Email resume and writing samples to firstname.lastname@example.org. Put internship in the subject line. For more information or to apply, contact Executive Editor Jeanette Kendall at 681-3733.
