  • Save the Bowen Organization/Peoria Asylum is finally open to the public for tours and that means TV crews as well. Ghost Hunters was the first to film in the historic building since the opening in October and they were not disappointed. Lead Investigators Jason Hawes, Steve Gonsalves, Dave Tango and Britt Griffith headed up the investigation. The investigation took place over two days on Nov. 26 and 27, 2012. The investigators interviewed various people regarding paranormal experiences on Nov. 30 and on Dec. 4, they revealed the evidence collected. The air dates are yet to be determined but should be on Syfy between January and March of 2013. The Save the Bowen Foundation is very excited about the Ghost Hunters visit and can’t wait for the airing of the investigation so everyone can see the evidence that was collected. Now that the abatement is complete the foundation was able to reopen this 50,000 square foot historic building for historic and paranormal tours. The former state mental hospital’s immediate plans will be a local attraction for those interested in the paranormal. The Peoria Asylum has a reputation for being very haunted and they will use this reputation to help secure funding for restoration. Save the Bowen is offering private investigations and tours on Fridays and Saturdays. (Check the website for more info. www.peoria-asylum.com) The long term plans are to develop part of the Peoria Asylum into a Bed & Breakfast, a museum, and a restaurant/banquet facility. Commercial rental space will be available in part of it, as well as luxury apartment suites. The owner is looking for retail/commercial/hotel developers who are interested in helping develop this historic property.
