  • Illinois Valley Central's wrestling team is starting hot out of the gates.
The team lost to Morton by 12 but beat Richwoods by 7 at home Nov. 19.
The team then beat Kewanee by 30 and Streator by seven Nov. 20 on the road.
"I thought the team wrestled better than expected in the first two nights," coach Matt Russell said. "With a number of starters out for various reasons, we had some JV wrestlers step up big."
The team next wrestles at 5 p.m. Thursday at home against Olympia, Midwest Central and Illini Bluffs.
"We seemed to be in pretty decent shape for the beginning of the season," Russell said. "That doesn't surprise me with as hard as the boys have been working.
"We have a number of things to work on after the first two nights but that is to be expected."
