  • Jess Reyling’s start into the world of cake decorating comes from a sweet beginning of wanting to make cakes for her children’s birthdays.
“It’s important to me. It’s something I pictured doing as a mom,” said Reyling, who wanted to emulate what her mother did for her as a child, as well as making homemade Halloween costumes.
In 2008, she took a couple of cake decorating classes at Michael’s.
“I was so enamored with decorating I went online and taught myself how to make things.”
Her degree is not in anything cake related. She has a business degree from Midstate College and a master’s degree from Kaplan. All her schooling is focused on human resources. She wanted to teach at the college level, something she would still like to do. She also dreams of opening a shop someday.
For the time being, she is focusing on her family and baking for enjoyment only, “not with a time clock or camera in my face.”
She encourages anyone with a dream to find a support system to help them.
If it’s something you’re really passionate about, you should go for it,” said Reyling.
