Willie Lee "Bill" Higdon Jr., 82, of Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Chillicothe, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Jan. 21, 1930, in Huntsville, Ala., the son of Willie L. Higdon Sr. and Ella Mae (Cross) Higdon, he married Laverne Marie Flynn on June 25, 1955, in Bark River, Mich. She survives.
Surviving are one son, Scott (Theresa) Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C.; six grandchildren; two brothers, Dan (Mary Ann) Higdon and Ron (Kathy) Higdon, both of Peoria; and two sisters, Frances Henderson and Peggy (Bill) Kircher, both of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Higdon.
He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe, where he was active in the music ministry and Cursillo program. He was a member of the Central Illinois Banjo Group, a volunteer at Family Resource Center in Peoria and with the Appalachian Project in Tennessee.
The memorial Mass was Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Keith Walder celebrating. Friends and relatives gathered for a sharing time before the Mass. Burial of cremated remains will be in Bark River Cemetery in Bark River, Mich., at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Edward Catholic School in Chillicothe.
