Anna Elizabeth Lewis Spillman, 100, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. She lived the last years with her granddaughter, Kay Davis, and her husband, Mike, on Krause Road on what has been the family farm for several generations.
Born in LaRose to Ralph Eugene Lewis and Gertrude Anetta (Watkins) Lewis on Aug. 30, 1912, she married Frank “Briar” Spillman on July 21 ,1931. The couple farmed and owned and operated Spillman Construction and two waterworks companies until his death. He died on June 18, 1977.
Surviving are one daughter, Peggy, of Chillicothe; two granddaughters, Kathie “Kay” (Mike) Davis and Monae (Chris) Leinhard of Harpers Ferry W.V.; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Julia “Judy,” and two brothers, Donald “Don” and James “Jimmy” Lewis.
She was active for many years in several fraternal organizations. She was a past president of Rebekah Lodge 545, past district president and served as a delegate and many positions to the national level. She received the Decoration of Chivalry from the I.O.O.F. Sovereign Lodge in 1969. She also was a past president of the G.A.R. auxiliary and a past president of the Women’s Relief Corp. She was a 36-year member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Home Extension of Peoria County (Chillicothe unit).
All memorial donations will be sent to: The Rebekah scholarship fund of Illinois.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
Inurnment will be held the following day at the Chillicothe City Cemetery.
