  • The Chillicothe City Council approved the beginning of an overhaul of City Stage in City Park.
The council approved April 9 spending $2,000 for a drawing and design work using Tax Increment Financing funds. PSA Dewberry will design the plans.
Alderwoman Sandi Levell said the roof is bad on the stage, so when it is replaced, the roof will be extended out to the front of the concrete floor.
That move will help to protect sound equipment sitting at the front of the stage.
Levell envisions at least two pillars to be on each corner, plus possibly more.
The wooden steps at the front of the stage she wants replaced by wider concrete steps.
“I really would like it to be a large gazebo,” said Levell.
While it may not look quite like a gazebo, she plans for flowers to continue around the stage. She and her helpers did landscaping work last year before Claud-Elen Days.
The project will not be finished this year before the annual festival, which is June 7-9.
Levell said she also plans for some kind of barrier wall to be built in front of the opening at the back of the middle of the stage.
