Marjory Kathleen Staker, 96, of Chillicothe died at 7:32 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born March 18, 1915, to Noah and Clara (Hardisty) Phipps in Jasonville, Ind., she married Charles Gillespie on Aug. 20, 1939. He died Nov. 7, 1985. She later married Lewis A. Staker on June 29, 1991. He died July 20, 2007.

Also preceding her in death was one son, William Gillespie.

Surviving are her stepfamily of one daughter, Suzanne (Jim) Lehr; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Ruby June (Travis) Houck.

She was valedictorian of her high school class at Jasonville High School.

She modeled for Carson Pirie Scott & Co. She received her 75-year pin from the Indiana Grand Chapter of O.E.S.

She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and always active there in youth and adult programs. She was also a member of the Peoria Salvation Army Auxiliary, the Peoria Symphony Guild, Chillicothe Historical Society and was a charter member of the Pearce Community Center in Chillicothe.

Funeral services were Monday morning at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home. The Rev. Ted Mitchell officiated. Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be on Tuesday in Lebanon Cemetery in Midland, Ind.
