It’s kinda rare to have two people in the same town celebrating their birthdays on the same day, let alone turning the same age.

Add to that they both will spend their birthday evening — you could even say "birthday meal" — serving other residents for a cause they hold dear.

That’s just what I hear Jay Close and Gary Fyke are doing on their birthday Monday at the VFW?Post 4999. Both are longtime members of the society with Gary serving as president currently. They will be helping at the Chillicothe Historical Society’s annual Chili/Soup Supper.

Residents can eat the hearty meal from 4-7 p.m. and support the group, which collects and keeps Chillicothe’s history. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children.

While you’re there, consider becoming a member of the society. The dues are not that much — $5/student, $15/single or $25/family, etc. The society doesn’t receive any government support and strictly runs on donations and goodwill of others.

And don’t forget to wish Jay and Gary a happy birthday! You’ll have to ask them how old they are when you see them, but I hear it's one of those "big" birthdays.
