The Dunlap boys basketball Regional has been moved to Peoria Richwoods.

The Regional starts Tuesday and goes through March 4.

“It came about basically because on Friday, March 4, we have the opening of the spring musical, The Phantom of the Opera,” Dunlap athletic director Duane Peterson said.  “They’re probably going to have a sellout crowd of 1,400 people. We started looking at the type of crowd we’d have for the Regional as well, and thought we’d have about the same crowd for the game. We just did not feel comfortable trying to park and get that many people into our building that evening.”

After talking to the Illinois High School Association, both decided to move the entire regionals.

The move will cost Dunlap around $3,000.

“I think you’re probably looking at $3,000 take for the week for concessions and what we might garner on gate receipts,” Peterson said. “There is a fair amount that goes to the IHSA also. When you have anything that well attended, you’re going to make some money on it.”

He added that the district is confident they will be able to get the Regional again next year.
