St. Jude to receive vegetable proceeds

Selling vegetables on a roadside stand may have just been a practice run, but an 8-year-old Chillicothean has the right idea for raising money.

Finnis Ginder, with the help of  his parents, planted a garden hoping the end result would help St. Jude.

“His school, South School, does a lot of stuff for St. Jude,” Abbey Ginder, Finnis’ mother, said.

“He had a classmate that was at St. Jude, and so last year at the end, we were getting overwhelmed with vegetables and he said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great to sell them and give the money to St. Jude?’

So, all winter long he planned it and talked about it and then just started.”

He usually sells the vegetables at his house off of Blue Ridge Road in Chillicothe, but one day he decided to try a vegetable stand on the corner of Fourth and Walnut streets, said his mother, calling it a “trial run.”

Finnis planted pumpkins, melons and gourds along with the other vegetables he is already selling.

“Hopefully he can sell through the fall. The pumpkins will hopefully get an October crop, but this is our first year planting them, so fingers crossed,” Ginder said.

As of July 21, Finnis had a total of $165 raised.
