The spring weather got the best of the Illinois Valley Central High School girls’ track team again last week.

Their scheduled meet at Henry April 21 was canceled due to rain and temperature.

The team traveled to Dunlap Friday for the 30th annual Dunlap Eagle Relays, placing fifth overall with some outstanding performances.

Christina Frank broke her own school record in the discus with a throw of 130-9 to place first and become the top performer in the area.

Emma Hoerr continued her excellence in the shot put by delivering a throw of 37-11 to win the event and placed fourth in the discus.

Mikayla Vail bounced back from a nagging back injury to have her season’s best jump in the triple jump and long jump.

Her 32-10 TJ placed second, and her 15-8.5 in the LJ grabbed third place.

Most of the running events were relays, with the 800 sprint medley of Megan Otto, Lindsey Whalen, Tawnie McGann and Jenna Magee capturing second place in 1:56.5, highlighted by Magee’s amazing anchor leg.

The 1600 sprint medley of Hoerr, Vail, Stephany Johnson and Sarah James also placed second, with James passing two runners in the final 100.

The 4x200 and 4x100 of Otto, Whalen, McGann and Magee ran a season’s best 1:52.2 and 53.2, respectively, both placing fifth.

The 4x800 of Johnson, James, Emily Pence and Alyssa Mall placed eighth.

Others participating included Mackenzie Swanson in the shot, Amy Kinnary in the TJ and Rachel Wargo in the 1600.

The team was scheduled to travel to Princeton Tuesday and heads to Elmwood Thursday.
