The following is the proclamation honoring Sid Crabel's retirement as the superintendent of public works. Linda Daley, executive assistant to state Rep. Dave Leitch (R-Peoria) presented it to Crabel at Monday night's Chillicothe City Council meeting. Leitch is currently in Springfield.

State Senator Dale Risinger & State Representative David R. Leitch To Clyde “Sid” Crabel

On this 12th Day of March, 2009

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Clyde “Sid” Crabel on the occasion of his retirement as Superintendent of Public Works of the City of Chillicothe on May 1, 2009; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Crabel was born on May 26, 1943; he was the only child of Clyde D. and Ilion B. Crabel; his father was a conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad; his mother was the Chillicothe City Clerk for 66 years and the Chillicothe Township Clerk for 65 years; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Crabel has been a life-long resident of Chillicothe; he lived in the same house on Sixth Street to which his mother and grandmother moved in 1913 following the death of his grandfather in a railroad accident; he attended Pearce Grade School; he spent two years at the Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri, and then graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1961; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Crabel married Sharon Ann Dawson on April 11, 1969; together, they have six children (all boys including a set of triplets), nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Crabel was hired by the City of Chillicothe to serve as Superintendent of Public Works on May 11, 1978; as Superintendent, he is charged with overseeing the maintenance and operation of the city streets, water supply, sewer services, and cemetery; under his supervision, the City of Chillicothe has maintained perfect compliance with the State of Illinois Fluoridation Laws for 15 consecutive years; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Crabel attended night school at Illinois Central College to obtain his Water Operator’s License; he is a lifetime member of the American Water Works Association, having been a member for 30 years; he is also a member of Midwest Water Operators, the Illinois Portable Water Supply Operators Association, and the Illinois Rural Water Association; he holds a Class C Operator’s License, a Class B CDL Drivers License, and  a Mosquito Applicator License; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Crabel is a life member of the Peoria Casting Club; he was a sponsor and coach for little league baseball and junior football in Chillicothe for many years; and he has also been on the “chain gang” for IVC High School Football for 33 years; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Clyde “Sid” Crabel on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Clyde Crabel as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
