Myrle Wayne Peacock, 83, of New Concord, Ky., died April 23, 2009, at home.
Born July 31, 1925 in Weldon, Ill., to Harbin Edgar and Lelia (Crum) Peacock, he married Rosalie Jolene Eaton Jan. 12, 1946, in Clinton, Ill. She survives.
Surviving are five children, Cecile (Gary) Nessler of Phoenix, Ariz., Douglas (Martha) Peacock of Chillicothe, Shelley (Gary) Houser of Urbana, Rebecca (Robert) Avila of Metamora, and Lisa (Scott) Funcannon of Austin, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edna Elizabeth Aleshire of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Lewis Peacock and Cecil Edgar Peacock, and two sisters, Myrtle Irene Heath and Charlotte Berniece Donaldson.
He joined the Navy and fought in World War II where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and also served in the Korean War. He graduated from Millikin University in Decatur and then worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Mossville as a design engineer for 33 years, retiring at the age of 57. He moved to Kentucky in 1991.
Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. May 4 at Weber Hurd Funeral Home. The Rev. Ray Harrison will officiate.
