Wayne Styck of Chillicothe and Joe McManus of Naperville, both pictured, make up the BBQ Team of Joey Mac’s Smoke Stax.
On Oct. 4, they were named Grand Champions at the 29th annual American Royal Barbecue in Kansas City, Mo.
They were first of 106 teams from all over the United States who became eligible by winning a KCBS-sponsored BBQ event in 2008.
There was celebration at Chilli Bowl Nov. 18 on the Chillicothe Times-Bulletin bowling team.
Not only did the team of lane leaders win all four games that night to put them at the top of the league with a 32-16 season record, they also amassed an amazing 3,432 handicap series total.
The highlight was their second game, with Jeff Carlson carding a 256 game, followed by Jeff Waechter with a 248, Jeff’s dad Ray Carlson with a 247, son Nick Waechter with a 224 and anchor bowler Dan Mooney with a 198, for a 1,173 game total. Looks like the quintet earned a free drink last night, courtesy of their biggest admirer.
